Digital Mammography
* Digital mammography allows for shorter examination times and significantly improved patient comfort and convenience.
* The Women's Pavilion at Barrow Regional Medical Center offers a warmer, softer and more comfortable mammogram by using the MammoPad® breast cushion for every patient.
MammoPad® has been clinically demonstrated to reduce discomfort, associated with
mammograms, for most women. This breast cushion is “invisible” to X-rays and
does not interfere with the image quality of the mammogram.
* Available Monday-Friday and alternating Saturdays by appointment and physician referral
Aimee Jacks (left) and Alaina Brooks are two of the techs from the Mammography Team that will perform the exams.
Bone Density Exam
* Measures the density of bone to test for osteoporosis, osteopaenia &
fracture risk.
* Measures progress if calcium supplements are already part of your medication plan.
* A simple, quick and non-invasive procedure.
* Stand-alone machines
like the one at Barrow Regional measure bone density in the hip and thigh area,
and therefore, it is more accurate than a finger-measuring bone densitometry.
The hip/thigh area is a weight-bearing part of the body and a more precise area
of the body to measure for bone density than the finger.
Stereotactic Breast Biopsy
* Less invasive than surgical biopsy.
* Leaves little or no scarring.
* Can be performed in less than an hour.
* Can evaluate calcium deposits
* Lower cost than open surgical breast biopsy.
* The biopsy can be performed by either Dr. Christopher Brandys, a general surgeon, or Dr. David Causey, a radiologist.
