YMCA of Georgia's Piedmont & Barrow Regional Medical Center Partner
On January 25th, two primary Health and
Wellness entities of Barrow
County are joining forces
to become Barrow Health Partners.
This
collaborative partnership between Barrow
Regional Medical
Center and the YMCA of Georgia’s
Piedmont creates the vision of Improving
the Health of Barrow
County residents through
a Culture of Wellness.
Barrow Regional Medical Center
and the YMCA of Georgia’s Piedmont will be
working closely together to develop a comprehensive plan to improve the health
status of the community.
Through this
partnership, Barrow
Regional Medical
Center employees will be
located at the Brad Akins YMCA in Winder – to assist the membership in
improving their health status. Offering
guidance for the members individually and through group classes - registered
nurses, physical therapists, registered dietitians and physicians – will be
providing their expertise to the residents of Barrow County
with the focus of prevention and wellness.
Partnering with the YMCA comes at a time when Barrow Regional
Medical Center
is increasing its’ focus on wellness and reaching out to the community. “It just makes sense to collaborate,” stated
Blake Watts, CEO of Barrow Regional Medical Center. “It’s a comprehensive wellness approach,
combining physical education and health education with medical and prevention
and health screenings.”
Kurt Stringfellow, CEO of the YMCA of Georgia’s Piedmont, states that discussions about the collaboration
started a couple of years ago, when both organizations realized their missions
were complementary. The hospital and
YMCA have been working together on the TEAM LEAN program for three years, along
with the Children’s health fair. The
formalization of having Barrow
Regional Medical
Center employees within
the facility every day “will bring the medical expertise to our facilities and
strengthen the staff’s ability to improve our members’ health.”
“This partnership between two strong organizations
will have a major impact on the lives of Barrow
County residents,” states the chair of
the YMCA board, Linda Easterly, the chief nurse of Barrow Regional
Medical Center. “We are excited that this partnership will
allow us to continue to educate and motivate our community into a higher level
of health.”

YMCA of Georgia's Piedmont CEO Kurt Stringfellow & Barrow Regional Medical Center CEO Blake Watts sign the agreement while BRMC Chief Nurse and YMCA Board Chair Linda Easterly, YMCA COO Summer Woodard and Barrow Health Partners Nurse Liaison Michele Clark, RN, look on.
